MOVING TO SHELBYVILLE, TN GIVES YOU THE RELAXED COUNTRY LIVING WITH THE
CONVENIENCE TO BIG CITY LIFE
Shelbyville
is a small town located in the rolling countryside of Middle Tennessee with the
convenience to larger towns such as Murfreesboro, Franklin and Nashville being
only 20 to 45 minutes away.
Shelbyville and Bedford County is a growing area with a population of 16,000 in
the city and 37,000 in the county.
Our property values are among the lowest in Middle Tennessee. Our property
taxes are $550 per $100,000 of tax appraisal. Insurance rates are low also
compared to other areas.
Shelbyville is home of the famous Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration held
annually with the Grand Champion Walking Horse being crowned each August.
Shelbyville is known as The Pencil City since we have had a pencil factory here
for many years. We have several good factories, such as Calsonic Kansei, Jabiru
Aircraft, Sanford Corporation, Bemis Custom Products, Cebal America, Josten’s,
Tyson Foods and others. We also have good schools; several city and county
public schools and a private school, Webb School in Bell Buckle. We have many
different denominations of churches here. There is a new state of the art
hospital under construction to be complete in 2008.
We
have a great city recreation center, and we are the home of the famous girls
basketball team, the Shelbyville Golden Eaglettes, state championships for 12
years. Bedford County Arts Council promotes the arts and there is some cultural
diversity within Shelbyville.
Shelbyville is a great place to call home with a friendly hometown atmosphere
and convenience to larger cities with all the attractions available. Mostly,
people who move here are very impressed with the relaxed pace of life and all
the friendly people that they meet. It is easy for out of Towner’s to feel
welcome here and quickly become part of our small town community.
